Queens Botanical Garden was established as part of the New York World’s Fair in 1939 and was originally located near Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
It was relocated to its current location in 1963, east of Flushing Meadows Park, in preparation for the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Since then, the Queens Botanical Garden has grown, with programming geared toward the surrounding community. The Queens Botanical Garden Society published a master plan for the garden’s renovation in 2001, centered on the garden’s location above the underground Kissena Creek.
