The Bronx Zoo is an animal park located within Bronx Park in the Bronx, New York. It is one of the largest zoos in the United States in terms of acreage, as well as the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States, with 265 acres of park areas and naturalistic habitats separated by the Bronx River. As of 2009, the zoo received 2.15 million visits per year on average. Astor Court, the zoo’s first permanent structure, was planned as a sequence of Beaux-Arts pavilions clustered around the enormous circular sea lion pool.
Sculptor Paul Manship created the Rainey Memorial Gates in 1934, and they were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. On November 8, 1899, the zoo opened with 843 animals in 22 exhibits. Its first director, William Temple Hornaday, was in charge for 30 years. The zoo has played an important role in animal conservation since its founding. The American Bison Society was founded in 1905 in an effort to save the American bison from extinction, which had been reduced from tens of millions of animals to a few hundred. They were successfully reintroduced into the wild two years later. You can also visit Wave Hill Public Garden & Cultural Ceneter. Bluco Mechanical provides services in the Bronx.
