Bluco takes pride in serving the greater New York City and Manhattan region. One World Trade Center (also known as One WTC, and formerly Freedom Tower) is the primary structure of the reconstructed World Trade Center complex also located in Lower Manhattan, New York City. David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill built One World Trade Center, the tallest structure in the United States and the Western Hemisphere. The skyscraper is named after the 9/11-destroyed North Tower of the original WTC. The new tower replaces 6 World Trade Center in the site’s northwest corner. It’s bounded by West, Vesey, Fulton, and Washington streets.

Recent Additions

Work on utility relocations, footings, and foundations began on April 27, 2006. One World Trade Center in New York City’s tallest structure. Steel completion happened completed August 30, 2012. The skyscraper’s spire was completed on May 10, 2013, making it 1,776 ft tall. The Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. The observatory opens on May 29, 2015.

PANYNJ confirmed on March 26, 2009, that the building would be called “One World Trade Center” It’s 104th.

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum will be built south of One WTC, where the original Twin Towers stood. After the first WTC complex was demolished, the new building was built to memorialize and rebuild.

History

The original structure (1971–2001)

In May 1970, One WTC was under construction. David Rockefeller envisioned and built the original World Trade Center as urban renewal. The initiative revitalized Lower Manhattan. Port Authority of New York and New Jersey hired architect Minoru Yamasaki. The twin towers of 1 and 2 WTC were designed as tube-framed buildings, without columns or walls. Two WTC was the South Tower. Each tower is 1,350 feet tall and occupies 1 acre of the 16-acre property. Eight of each tower’s 110 floors are mechanical. All floors were open. Each floor had 40,000 square feet. North and South towers had 3,800,000 square feet of office space.

 

The North Tower was built in 1966 using prefabricated components. The North Tower opened in October 1971. At 1,368 feet, the original One WTC was the world’s tallest building. In 1978, a 360-foot-tall antenna raised the North Tower to 1,728 feet. The WTC erected four low-rise buildings in the 1970s. Mid-1980s construction added the seventh building. The 7-building office complex had 13,400,000 square feet.
